Hate to read that you didn't get funded. What's your non profit? What grant were you going after? I'm applying to Cave Canem and I'm scared shitless. Actually, I'm better than I was about two weeks ago but the acceptance letters from CC are few. They take about 15 out of 150. I got a grant from the Kentucky Foundation for Women to cover the cost if I get in, which is an honor in its self. Wish me luck. Better yet, wish me a miracle!
i applied for cave canem's ny writing workshop too. but that is free if you are accepted. or are you talking about the retreat? that shyt is expensive!
my non profit is named after my grandmother who just passed. coco's legacy is an organization geared towards women, single mothers, and teenage mothers using art as the medium. i guess i have to work on other things dolo. but the mission goes on - i promise. i know too many women that need a support group just to keep going, nahmean? first board meeting is in march... and you dont need luck mama -- you got skillz!
It sounds like a good non profit. Keep at it. With the proposals I’ve done the key is a solid budget that explains every penny requested, a realistic timeline, and that each little request from the grant source is followed i.e. use red pen for signatures, no longer than four pages, two copies on papyrus written in blood! LOL
Good luck and keep at it. There are other funding sources.
And yes, I’m applying for the week long summer retreat at CC. I was awarded a generous grant from the Kentucky Foundation for Women, www.kfw.org , that will fund it completely if I’m accepted. Thanks for the support, Mo. You’re a special lady with skills to spare.
my journalism work can be found in print mags XXL, King, Source (back n da day), Honey (even further back), UK's Mobo Magazine & Canada's Word Magazine. My poetry has been included in UK's X Magazine and several on-line publications.
